John Stratford (entrepreneur)

John Stratford (c.1582-c.1634), of the Gloucestershire Stratfords, was an Elizabethan and Jacobean merchant and entrepreneur, and a significant grower of tobacco in the Cotswolds.
==Life==
Descended from ancient gentry stock, he was the seventh of eight sons and one daughter born to John Stratford and his wife Margaret (of the Tracy Family, later the Barons Sudeley). John Stratford (the younger) became a London salter apprenticed to Peter Robinson, marrying his daughter Joan at Cheshunt, Hertfordshire on the 20th of April 1602. They had two sons and five daughters, all born between 1603 and 1615 and baptized at St Matthew's Church, Friday Street, London.
